This is an app and desktop website for kids to read articles about nutrition.

Problem

Children need something to learn about nutrition from.

Goal

Create an app that allows children to read about nutritional value.

Role

Lead UX Designer

UX Researcher

Responsibilities

Research, Analyzing Data, Wireframing, Prototyping, Designing

Duration

1 month

User Research

I did not want to collect data on children because it is not ethical, so I did my research on parents and if they think their kids pain points will be and how they will react.

I conducted unmoderated usability studies for this project.

Persona: Thomas Bean

Problem statement:

Thomas Bean is a working professional and father who needs to teach his child about nutrition because his son needs to know about good nutrition.

User Journey Map

This gives children the information to learn is easy, but I need give them something interesting and fun to do because children's attention maybe lost due to all the text.

Starting Design

Sketches

I thought bubbly circle would be more interesting than just text link.

I think this will make the feel like this is fun and easy going rather than professional and serious.

Wireframes

I tried to break up the monotony of the page with images and colors.

Breaking the text will make reading less daunting and keep the users attention better.

I also have a game page which will hopefully draw in kids to use the app.

Usability Testing

Issue 1: Article pages are boring

Solution 1: Use colors and images to make the page more interesting

Issue 2: Games page leads to nothing

Solution 2: Add a coming son page to games

Refined Design

Mockups

Going Forward

Next Steps

Add real info from scientifically backed articles for facts into the articles. Figure out if games can be added through Figma.

Learnings

It is hard to make an article based app interesting. Little details are what makes the difference.
